Construction - Reflection Post 4

This week for the reflection blog i have researched and found out a template for the CD cover i need, its a rustic and quite a modern design, that fits well to the N-Dubz scene, it has a few flats and tall buildings that we are going to stand on, showing that we've risen from the gutter and getting a lot of money from rapping. i am going to start editing it together today and hopefully get a section of it done and almost finished, ready to start on the inside of the CD case.

Construction - Radio Spot Analysis

I have listened to a Radio Spot and i have found out some things that they have used:
  • They have used a catchy jingle that is easy to remember.
  • They sing over it, almost like an introduction to a song.
  • Its quick and simple.
  • They speak over the instrumental to make it sound more welcoming.

Construction - Reflection Post - 3

Today we are getting strongly into our research, myself and Toni are researching artists websites, this will enable us to see what artists put on their websites so we can transfer some of their ideas onto ours. Harold is researching CD covers and he will make our CD cover.

Construction - Reflection Post - 2

We have found that separating ourselves from eachother with different tasks each to get on with during our media lessons helps us to get more work done than all three of us focusing on getting one task finished together. This helps us to focus more and also helps us to avoid distraction and work not getting completed due to talking, going off task and messing around. We are realising early this year how badly our group is functioning and we are putting a stop to it early and will focus on our work more, we need to get our work done.

Construction - Reflection Blog Post - 1

The group functioning and working together is not going very well due to absences because of illness and other things. The work this year is much bigger for all subjects, not just media, so we are finding it hard to juggle all our work at once. We are so far staying on top of our media work and hope it stays this way throughout the year due to the fact that last year we found that all our work piled on top of eachother and we struggled to meet our deadlines.

Planning - Album Cover Analysis

This is Lil Debbie Ft. RiFF RaFF's album cover,
The album cover is an animated style, and features symbols that relate to america and the recent elections that have been going on, calling it "Michelle Obama" is appropriate, it is bringing in publication by relating the song to the elections.
even though they have used symbols that are related to america, and americans, they have changed the to their own and selling it, like the presidential seal being changed to an eagle holding drugs, and the gambling and alcohol, and the american colours used relate to america.

Planning - Website Research

The artist i have chose to research is Lady Gaga, this is because she has a big fan base and is a popular artist now a days.

This is the first page you see when you open the link to her website, as you can seen there is a layour where there is a sombre feeling to it, there is a picture of Lady Gaga because its her website, there are also tour dates for her tour on the furst page.

When you enter the site, you come to the home page which has different tabs on it, the first one is Haus which when you click on it send you back this home page, the second tab is Info.

The Info page shows information about Lady Gaga, here you can see she is nominated for three MTV EMAs. There is also information given about her music and videos which have been uploaded to the website, the video that is ont he werbsite at the moment is 'Marry The Night.' On the music page there are pictures of the front covers of her albums. Also on the info page there is another sub page called Gagavision which shows home videos that she herself has uploaded, there is also a photo page where photos of her album covers, tours and music videos have been uploaded and posted.

Planning - Music Video Proposal

Our video will feature Harold and Toni as a couple, Harold will get caught cheating on Toni with Eden.

Toni has an argument with Harold, tries to fight Eden, and Harold has to hold her back while Eden runs away. We will also feature some green screen shots but we are not sure what images/videos to use on the background.

The video will then feature Toni leaving and Harold crying realising whats happened. The video will end with toni crying burning pictures/memories of her and Harold together in a fire or with a lighter.

We thought we would base our video in cheating because people can relate to it. We also thought we would feature arguments and fights because it creates controversy and makes people think "that's what i'd do" we wanted it to show a woman getting hurt because it will reach out to women and make them feel sympathy for Toni because she is going through pain in the video. We featured women's problems because their audience are mainly women so thats how we decided to relate it to women.

Planning- Reflection On Research

During out demographic research it taught us a lot about N-Dubz. It taught us that they are mainly popular in the UK. As a group we think that they are most popular in the UK because they are from the UK and thats where they originated from. We decided from this that we will film our video in the UK however due to the fact that other countries such as america listen to N-dubz we will feature some American products and products from other countries so the people from that country can relate to the video.

We also noticed from our research that N-dubz' audience is mainly female. From this research we decided that we will make our video reach out to teenage girls, rather than teenage boys.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz- Gender Distribution

Here is the gender distribution of who listens to N-Dubz, as you can clearly see, more Females listen to them, this is mainly because the songs are quite feminine, some people call it soft R&B, because the lyrics are quite soft and don't really rap about anything hard, and mainly on love and relationships, and its proven that women prefer listening to this sort of R&B, but men also like listening to it, but not as many as women as you can see on the chart here.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Fans.

This print screen is from MusicMetric. N-Dubz fan base is slowly going up again due to the fact that there is rumours that they are getting back together. It went down when they broke up.They have 2,286,000 fans, it fluctuates betweens songs.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - MusicMetric Rank

Here is the MusicMetric Rank which means that out of all the artists on MusicMetric N-dubz are 4,451st which is a good place to be considering there are thousands of artist on the website. As you can see N-dubz went down 2,536th in a day this might not be because they have caused a problem but because other artists are going up. N-dubz need to go up so we will need to make a new video and maybe make it controversial to grasp peoples attention.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Fan Demographics

Here we can see by the Fan Demographics that more females listen to N-dubz than males. Between the ages to 20 and 30 more females listen to N-dubz than males, but between the ages of 30 and 40 more males listen to N-Dubz. Even people at the age of 68 listen to N-dubz.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Web Buzz

Here we can see what is happening right now with the online media, what people are saying about     N-Dubz. As you can see there are 2 songs in the web buzz section, and Number 1, also some controversy, the 'Sex' section shows that something has happened to the group, or something has been seen and has made it in the media, and people have heard about it and are searching to find it and see it for themselves.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Social Media Fans

This is the social media overview, we can see here that most of N-Dubz's fans are on Facebook, so if I'm going to promote them i would do it on Facebook because of the amount of fans that use it. 1.6 million fans use it , and the music video would get good coverage when shared because its bound to be found by a N-Dubz fan and shared by them.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Total Downloads

This is the count of downloads they have had, as you can see the main country that listens to N-Dubz is the United Kingdom, this may be because the actual group are from the UK and represent the UK, and people can relate to them and so they listen to them. From the research i found out London has the majority of downloads compared to other major cities in the UK. Also i found out that the USA was the 2nd best country for downloads, so to improve the ratings of the Americans, they should include something american in the next music video to relate to them, and increase views and fans.

Planning - MusicMetric - N-Dubz - Sentiment

This is the overall sentiment of the bands reputation, it is neither good or bad, its right in the middle, that means that the rating of the group is good but not very good because they haven't release anything for a while, because some of the members in this group are now having a solo career.

Planning - Hip Hop and Rap comparison

Comparing Hip Hop and Rap, ive chosen two different artist to write about, Busta Rhymes and Kreayshawn. Busta Rhymes is an old school artist and Kreayshawn is a modern rap artist, the difference  of the lyrics they use is huge. One of them is talking about the struggle and how they live the life they do, rough and full of negatives, whereas Kreayshawn raps about the good life that she lives and how she smokes drugs, also the controversy in Kreayshawn's song is quite noticeable, she raps about smoking but doesn't say what, and she talks about girls in a sexual way and she raps about them as a sexual object, also, she's a girl so she's including homosexuality in her video.
even they lyrics are different, in a huge way.. The difference in the lyrics is the way they describe their lifestyles, Busta Rhymes raps about glamourising the hard struggle life, whereas kreayshawn raps about how good her life is and her good lifestyle, being rich basically.

Planning - 70s Glamrock

Glamrock videos were seen as contriversial because of homosexuality. As you can see in this Glamrock music video, Elton John is wearing glittery glasses which is seen as very womanly.

Planning - M-tV

MTV launched on the 1st of August in 1981 and it was the largest cable network in the world, and it owns over 75 stations, this is synergy, as it owns multiple channels so it's getting income from multiple places and will be gaining money, the first video to be shown on MTV is Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star.

Planning - Controversy

Controversy has sold in music videos since the 1920s when soundies were invented. Artists have been controversial by making their music videos controversial or having a controversial image. Examples of artists with controversial music videos are Rihanna, Jay Z, Prodigy and M.I.A. Examples of artists with a controversial image are Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Kanye West.

This video shows how music videos were controversial back in the 1920s. They found that being controversial in their music videos sold their videos. Music videos started to sexually objectify women, to us women don't look sexually objectified but back then women were not to act like this. she is showing a lot of skin and you can see the out line of her breasts and body.

This music video shows how people are still controversial today in their music videos, artists have carried on with the idea. People now days tend to record more extreme music videos. Videos now days are based a lot on drugs, alcohol, violence and sex. This video by Ed Sheeran shows a young woman who sleeps with someone for money to buy drugs. The lyrics to the song 'The A Team' go with the video.

This video shows how some artists are contriversial in just their looks and have been like that since music videos started. Artists like Boy George from Culture Club decided to wear makeup and no one ever saw Boy George without his makeup and funny looking clothes he was a completely different person as his character.

A recent artist who is controversial in their looks would be Nicki Minaj. Her look sells her. No one ever sees her without her wigs and makeup. She has also had plastic surgery to make her buttocks bigger to fit her look.

Artists have also been controversial in their music videos and looks. These artists found that having contriversial music videos and looks also sold. David Bowe filmed weird music videos and also wore makeup which was seen as controversial because men didn't wear makeup.

Lady Gaga is contriversial with her look and her videos, she wears strange clothes and records videos with story lines. For example this video is her breaking out of prison and killing a man with poison. Beyonce isn't very controversial but this video sold because she came up with a controversial act.

Planning - Hip Hop

Hip Hip has changed throughout the early 80's and late 90's, the messages have changed from talking about the struggle but having fun with it and trying to get along, like the music video for Sugar Hill Gang - Rappers Delight. Where as it changes when it reaches the 90's in WuTang Clans - WuTang Clan Ain't Nothin To F*ck Wit, it is glamourising the life in ghettos and drug using.

Written by Harold.

Planning - 60's Promo

Rock artists made films to promote new albums, artists were usually influenced by drugs for there music. Artists who were influenced by drugs were The Beatles, Bob Marley & Bob Dylan, videos would use bright colours and the idea and feel of drugs. In the video you can see that the Beatles have used cartoons and graphics which makes the music video appear 'trippy' like how people feel when they have been influenced by drugs.

Planning - Scopitones

Scopitones were created in France in the late 1950s, it then continued into the early 60s. The early video jukebox was made in the 1950s and they were mainly in pubs and bars.

Scopitones are much more sexual than soundies, this coincides with the generation, it was very controversial for the people living in the 1950s and 60s . Weeker naratives began to develop and they became more in your face about sexuality.
Written By Eden Frost

Planning - Soundies

Soundies were the first music video, Soundies used ideas of sexuality which include sexual clothing and sexual dancing. The people which starred in the Soundies we're sometimes black, which in a time when there was still segregation was seen as controversial. Written By Toni Richardson

Planning- Name Of Our Media Company

Written By Toni, Eden and Harold.

Planning - Description of Brief

This is the description of brief, in this class we are going to make a music video for an artist of our choice.
We choose a song and create and film a music video to document and mime to, making it look like it is the original music video for the song.
Also we are creating a CD Digipack for the artists single, something we can decorate with the title of the song and us, making the cd look official and sung by us.
We will also be creating a website for this artist, like a fan page where people are updated on the tours and music, also things like a gallery etc..
Furthermore we will be documenting the entire project on this blog, with focus' on planning, construction and evaluation using a variety of different media methods.
