Planning - Hip Hop and Rap comparison

Comparing Hip Hop and Rap, ive chosen two different artist to write about, Busta Rhymes and Kreayshawn. Busta Rhymes is an old school artist and Kreayshawn is a modern rap artist, the difference  of the lyrics they use is huge. One of them is talking about the struggle and how they live the life they do, rough and full of negatives, whereas Kreayshawn raps about the good life that she lives and how she smokes drugs, also the controversy in Kreayshawn's song is quite noticeable, she raps about smoking but doesn't say what, and she talks about girls in a sexual way and she raps about them as a sexual object, also, she's a girl so she's including homosexuality in her video.
even they lyrics are different, in a huge way.. The difference in the lyrics is the way they describe their lifestyles, Busta Rhymes raps about glamourising the hard struggle life, whereas kreayshawn raps about how good her life is and her good lifestyle, being rich basically.

Planning - 70s Glamrock

Glamrock videos were seen as contriversial because of homosexuality. As you can see in this Glamrock music video, Elton John is wearing glittery glasses which is seen as very womanly.

Planning - M-tV

MTV launched on the 1st of August in 1981 and it was the largest cable network in the world, and it owns over 75 stations, this is synergy, as it owns multiple channels so it's getting income from multiple places and will be gaining money, the first video to be shown on MTV is Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star.

Planning - Controversy

Controversy has sold in music videos since the 1920s when soundies were invented. Artists have been controversial by making their music videos controversial or having a controversial image. Examples of artists with controversial music videos are Rihanna, Jay Z, Prodigy and M.I.A. Examples of artists with a controversial image are Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Kanye West.

This video shows how music videos were controversial back in the 1920s. They found that being controversial in their music videos sold their videos. Music videos started to sexually objectify women, to us women don't look sexually objectified but back then women were not to act like this. she is showing a lot of skin and you can see the out line of her breasts and body.

This music video shows how people are still controversial today in their music videos, artists have carried on with the idea. People now days tend to record more extreme music videos. Videos now days are based a lot on drugs, alcohol, violence and sex. This video by Ed Sheeran shows a young woman who sleeps with someone for money to buy drugs. The lyrics to the song 'The A Team' go with the video.

This video shows how some artists are contriversial in just their looks and have been like that since music videos started. Artists like Boy George from Culture Club decided to wear makeup and no one ever saw Boy George without his makeup and funny looking clothes he was a completely different person as his character.

A recent artist who is controversial in their looks would be Nicki Minaj. Her look sells her. No one ever sees her without her wigs and makeup. She has also had plastic surgery to make her buttocks bigger to fit her look.

Artists have also been controversial in their music videos and looks. These artists found that having contriversial music videos and looks also sold. David Bowe filmed weird music videos and also wore makeup which was seen as controversial because men didn't wear makeup.

Lady Gaga is contriversial with her look and her videos, she wears strange clothes and records videos with story lines. For example this video is her breaking out of prison and killing a man with poison. Beyonce isn't very controversial but this video sold because she came up with a controversial act.

Planning - Hip Hop

Hip Hip has changed throughout the early 80's and late 90's, the messages have changed from talking about the struggle but having fun with it and trying to get along, like the music video for Sugar Hill Gang - Rappers Delight. Where as it changes when it reaches the 90's in WuTang Clans - WuTang Clan Ain't Nothin To F*ck Wit, it is glamourising the life in ghettos and drug using.

Planning - 60's Promo

Rock artists made films to promote new albums, artists were usually influenced by drugs for there music. Artists who were influenced by drugs were The Beatles, Bob Marley & Bob Dylan, videos would use bright colours and the idea and feel of drugs. In the video you can see that the Beatles have used cartoons and graphics which makes the music video appear 'trippy' like how people feel when they have been influenced by drugs.

Planning - Scopitones

Scopitones were created in France in the late 1950s, it then continued into the early 60s. The early video jukebox was made in the 1950s and they were mainly in pubs and bars.

Scopitones are much more sexual than soundies, this coincides with the generation, it was very controversial for the people living in the 1950s and 60s . Weeker naratives began to develop and they became more in your face about sexuality.

Planning - Description of Brief

This is the description of brief, in this class we are going to make a music video for an artist of our choice.
We choose a song and create and film a music video to document and mime to, making it look like it is the original music video for the song.
Also we are creating a CD Digipack for the artists single, something we can decorate with the title of the song and us, making the cd look official and sung by us.
We will also be creating a website for this artist, like a fan page where people are updated on the tours and music, also things like a gallery etc..
Furthermore we will be documenting the entire project on this blog, with focus' on planning, construction and evaluation using a variety of different media methods.
