Evaluation - CD Covers
Evaluation - Media Write Up - Harold
In what way does your media project use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product is different and also slightly similar to other professional products, from our camera techniques to the way we edited. Although we couldn't afford to actually use professional equipment, we used Low - Medium quality cameras and use the built in microphones so the quality of the actual film is lower than professional. Also, our music video is similar because of the subjects we chose to look over, we used controversial subjects including drugs and stolen money and cheating etc.. The characters are being played stereotypically, dressed in hoods and based in a poor estate, playing the role of N-Dubz at their early years when they weren't that big and didn't have much money.
What have you learned from audience feedback?
When we showed the music video to a selection of people, we used two males and two females to make the feedback fair and equal, the audience were also around the same age group as what we found out on a statistics website. When they watched it, we gathered information from how they reacted and what they told us to improve on. They told us what bits they liked, what bits they didn't like and what we should change about it. We also found that they enjoyed the comedy aspect that we included in it, pulling a few gags every now and then causing controversy because some of the scenes are quite serious and some may find sensitive, but after them we put in a joke and it lightens it up.
We used a lot of technology, mainly the internet because we can get a lot of information from the internet. In the construction stage, we looked at using software like Photoshop and we researched other main brand artists websites so that we had an idea of what to put on our own version of the N-Dubz website. Then for research we used a website called Music Metric to get all the statistics of them, from the genders that listen to them, to how many albums they've sold. From this we have found out what to include in our own video that will suit the target audience more and make our music video better.

This is the scene where me and Toni are arguing and it turns to me, cuts the music out and pans the camera down, showing the audience what I'm wearing and playing a cricket sound effect to exaggerate the joke of what I'm wearing, makes me look silly.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
All of our produces link together, in the music video you'll see blocks of flats, council estates and graffiti sprayed on the walls, and on our website, you'll see that the font that we have used is like graffiti, sprayed on the wall of the website. We have also made the website dark and black, this linking to the darkness of the early years of N-Dubz's career. Also on the CD Cover there is a QPR code, and when you scan that code, it links you to the website, and on the website, you'll find the music video, so everything is actually linked together.Evaluation - Media Write Up - Eden Frost
In what way does your media project use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media project uses, develops and challenges different forms and conventions of real media products in several ways. We use forms and conventions of real media products through postmodernism our media video is highly post modern, it shows real life and how hard life can be sometimes with every day issues such as adultery, violence and dealing with drugs. It doesn’t show the world as a utopia. Our product challenges forms an conventions of real media products due to the clothes we are wearing in our video. We took 'chavy' to the next level and highlighted it heavily with our clothing, makeup and some of our actions in the video. We also challenged other music videos by The role of a male being played by a female. In other music videos no one ever plays two roles I played the male role f the rap artist "Fazer" and a girl.
our video we thought that would be challenging and controversial to have a female play one of the male roles. We also took the whole 'lower class area rap artist' to the extreme by rapping in front of graffiti backgrounds and in front of blocks of council estate flats.
People like Devlin and N-Dubz do the same but we made sure that every opportunity we had we made it look 'lower class'. We have developed form and conventions of real media types by dressing one of the girls (myself) as a boy this hasn’t been seen in a music video before, we used three characters to play out the whole thing which also hasn’t been done before.

What have you learned from audience feedback?
From audience feedback, we have learned that overall the approach we took towards creating our N-Dubz music video was extremely good. From the audience interviews we discovered that all of the audience liked the parody idea and found it highly comical although slightly over the top and cheesy but in a good way. Our audience liked the props we used and they thought the outfits showed “N-Dubz” (us) in a light hearted comical way with the the makeup and clothes we wore, the girls, (Toni & myself) clothing was short, tight and very “chavy”
whereas the boys (Harold & myself) clothing was baggy and long and large which also gives of the “chavy” image.
The fact that I (Eden) took on the role as “Fazer” and didn’t get a boy to do it created a lot of humour, we expected this as we tried to dress myself as a boy as much as possible. This created a lot of humour due to the fact that it is out of the ordinary and we hadn’t seen it done before. We also learned that people cringed at our makeup and outfits because they were so highly over the top and that is what we wanted. The audience generally feel that we played N-Dubz well although we ended up looking nothing like them we put our own spin on It which was what we wanted out of it. Overall our audience feedback was excellent and we think we tackled the task very well.

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stage?
We used most of the media technologies in the construction, research, and planning and evaluation stages of our project. We used internet and film to plan, research and evaluate each stages of our product. In the planning stage we relied a lot on the Mac, Blogger, the internet and photo booth to help us to decide what artist to do a music video for. We used the internet to research different artists and who their target audience are. We then recorded our information on our blog using photo booth in some of our blog posts to create videos of ourselves on how far we were progressing at one time. In the construction stages we also relied heavily on the Mac and the internet because we were researching different things at different t times to decide what to and what not to put into our video next. We also used film (a camera and a tripod) in the construction stages to record our video . We used a green screen because it is helpful to take us anywhere in the world we want to be without having to actually go there. In the evaluation stages we relied heavily on our blog (the internet) which helped us peace everything together and evaluate how well our video went. Overall all of the media technologies played a part in helping us create our media product and helped us along the way depending on the different things we needed at different times.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The combination of our main product and ancillary texts are very affective because all of our products link together with the dark and dingie background. It links the brick walls to N-Dubz council estate background. We carried the graffiti theme throughout our website, album cover and music video as seen on our blog posts. In our music video we put graffiti on a green screen and on our website and album cover the headings are graffiti. Other artists do the same by keeping up their image through their personalities, websites and album covers. They generally keep their house styles the same per album for example Devlin filmed a lot of his “blood sweat and beers” album on his estate where he came from which relates to his album cover which pictures him standing up against a brick wall. Our outfits also showed N-Dubz council estate background and we kept them consistant throughout. with the dark dingie backgrounds and the graffitti themes.
Written By Eden Frost.
My outfits remained consistent in my boy role and my girl role. Our product is very much like other texts and that is what we were going for. Througout our website, music video and album cover we were consistent with colours, fonts, and clothing.

In what way does you media project use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media project uses, develop and challenges forms and conventions of real media products in many different aspects of our video. The ‘chavy’ clothing, heavy makeup and actions that we preformed during our music video highlighted this. The clothing which the girls (myself and Eden) wore during our music video was tight fitted and looked trashy where as the male characters (Harold & Eden) wore baggy clothing like tracksuit bottoms, baggy t-shirts, jumpers and trainers. The females in our video wore a lot of makeup, everything was exaggerated from our lipstick to our eyebrows.
We challenged other media roles by the role of a male being played by a female, in other music videos you never see this.
Our music video was similar to N-Dubz in certain ways because we had to portray the same roles, we wanted people to remember the old N-Dubz when they were still ‘street’. We had drugs, cheating and ‘hood rat’ features in our music video. We played stereotypical roles that people would assume teenagers or N-Dubz.
This information from music metric shows that women prefer to listen to N-Dubz rather than men.

What have you learnt from audience feedback?
From our audience feedback, we as a group have learnt that our approach to our N-Dubz video worked really well. People enjoyed the controversial roles we played, narrative and props we used. From our target audience interviews, we noted that people liked our video because it was comical to the viewer. During our time of filming we wanted our video to be funny even though it’s about an important issue which is relationships and cheating. We also learnt that our audience enjoyed our clothing and how we portrayed ourselves as N-Dubz, they also enjoyed the props we used. We used catnip as a substitute for cannabis in our video and it looked really realistic. Also some of the scenes we had in our music video were quite serious, but by using humorous sound and clips in other scenes, the tense feel was then taken away.
Girls in the video (myself and Eden) wearing little shorts and tight clothing.
During this scene we added cricket noises to create suspense and give a comical feel to our music video.
How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stage?
We used media technologies in all of the stages of our project, without these technologies we wouldn’t have been able to complete our project. The technology we mostly used was the internet because we based our research not just on feedback from our peers but statistics on N-Dubz themselves and what people enjoy seeing in a music video. For our research we went on music metric to get the statistics on N-Dubz and further information on the band. We also wanted to know what our target audience would like in our video. We also used the N-Dubz official website to gain information and an idea of what to put onto our website.
This information from music metric shows that women prefer to listen to N-Dubz rather than men.
We relied a lot on the Mac and internet access. We also used Photoshop to edit out CD cover.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The combination between our main product and ancillary text go well together. Our outfits and plot of our music video is consistent though out our media project. Our website, CD cover, Music Video and Radio spot are all similar to each other. We used graffiti and a lot of council estate like places to keep up with the theme of our project. Our CD cover is linked to our website though the use of a QPR code, when using this code or taking a picture of it, itll take you straight to a link to our website.

Here is our survey money, We created questions to get feedback from our audience to help us with evaluating our music video.

Evaluation: Audience Feedback
When we did the audience feedback we decided to make it fair and equal, using two people from each gender, so we had two males and two females, all four of these people were within the target audience that we found from a statistics website called MusicMetric. We sat the four audience members down and recorded them watching our media product. After this we asked the audience a few questions, interviewing them, finding out what they liked about our music video and if there was anything that they would have changed if they could. We sat down and watched it back afterwards, seeing how they reacted to some of the scenes and which scenes worked better than others, from their reaction. we found out a lot from this because we are aiming to please the target audience so that they would actually buy our products and visit the website.

Evaluation - Importance of Technology
In the planning stages, we used the internet for preliminary research, this enabled us to do our surveys quickly and instantly using websites such as Survey Monkey. This saved us so much time due to the fact it was done over the internet. We could reach our target audience in larger numbers by posting our surveys on things such as Facebook, Twitter and instagram. This helped us with things like deciding on costumes, where to film and what song to choose. Celtex also helped us a lot in our planning stages with things like creating our script, storyboard, a calendar and master catalogue. This kept us highly organised and helped us to work quickly when it came to the construction stages.
In the construction stages media technologies were highly important when it came to things like filming, and editing. We used the internet, cameras, tripods, preliminary software and after effects. Without technology we couldn't have even created the things we wanted to create. We wouldn't have been able to record the video.
In the evaluation we again used things like the internet, cameras and power point. We recorded our interviews, posted them on the internet and created our evaluation feedback. Using technology helped us with organising our evaluation due to the fact that we could put it all in one place (blogger). Technology also helped us with time saving due to the fact that we didnt have to write things down like conversations and surveys didn't need to be handed out they were all posted on the internet and the conversations were filmed.

Evaluation - How Does Your Project Challenge Real Media Texts?
We also challenged other music videos by The role of a male being played by a female. In other music videos no one ever plays two roles. In our video we thought that would be challenging and controversial to have a female play one of the male roles.
We feel that our music is more comical, although the lyrics are strongly about a break up and heartbreak, we decided to create more of a parody of N-Dubz to make the video less serious and more light hearted. The narrative is controversial due to the fact that a violence is strongly shown through the punch scene.
We also took the whole 'lower class area rap artist' to the extreme by rapping in front of graffitied backgrounds and in front of blocks of council estate flats. People like Devlin and N-Dubz do the same but we made sure that every opportunity we had we made it look 'lower class'.
This is our take on 'lower class area rap artist' based on the artists from East London, where we are from, we took inspiration a lot from N-Dubz music video "Ouch" and Devlin's music Video "Runaway"
Devlin - Runaway
N-Dubz - Ouch
